Stage 1 — Survey the Rooms

Part of Survey & Markup.

Walk the house room by room recording fabric, openings and measurements. This is the input to the heat-loss report and the Part F ventilation register.

Methodology: The room list comes from the property record, so a complete, sensibly named list before you start saves retyping. Each room's walls, floor, ceiling, windows and doors — what they are made of, how big they are and what they back onto — is what the heat-loss calculation and the ventilation requirement are derived from. A room scanned in 3D from the iOS app arrives here with its measurements already filled.

Steps:

  1. Press Add room if a room is missing; otherwise pick a room from the list.
  2. Record each surface — construction, area, what is on the other side — and the windows and doors with their sizes.
  3. Mark the room type (bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, WC) accurately: the ventilation rates depend on it.
  4. Use Arrange on the heat map to lay the rooms out, and Print plan for a paper copy to walk round with.
  5. Press Next: Drawings & Outlines when every room you intend to survey has its fabric recorded.
