Health & Safety
Under Documentation in the menu.
The project's health and safety records — risk assessments, notifications and incident log — scaled to the size of the project, with clear warnings for work you must not do yourself.
Methodology: The paperwork scales with the project: a small domestic job needs almost none, a larger one with multiple trades needs risk assessments and notification records, and the page tells you which tier applies and why. Guidance here is advisory throughout — it flags duties (such as CDM notification or RIDDOR reporting) rather than blocking work. That includes the jobs the law reserves for registered professionals, like gas and some notifiable electrical work: the page calls those out at the top, in red, as work you should not take on yourself — but it will not stop you assigning them. Nothing on this page is a gate; the decision, and the legal responsibility for it, stay with you.
Steps:
- Read What this project needs: the tier — work you're doing yourself, one contractor, more than one, or notifiable to the HSE — is worked out from the project, and each duty is marked Yours or Passes to the contractor.
- Tick the hazards under What's involved and answer the occupancy and site-size questions; the list of records adjusts.
- Under Records on file press Add record or Attach document against each slot; Accept a contractor's method statement when it arrives.
- Read the red list at the top of work reserved for registered professionals, and keep gas and notifiable electrical work with them.
- Under Hazards & incidents press Log something — What kind, What happened, How serious, Where — then Record it; the page says when one looks RIDDOR-reportable.
