On Site: Check In and Out

Clock in and out of a job from your phone each day, with a before and after photo and a pause for lunch. It works with no signal.

Methodology: For people paid by the hour. Checking in starts your clock and checking out stops it; lunch is taken off. You need to be within 300 metres of the site, which your phone checks using its location. If you are not, or your phone cannot tell, you can still check in by saying why — the person who set up your job sees the reason. Photos before and after are your record of the work.

No signal? Everything still works. Each tap is saved on your phone first and your day uploads by itself when you are next online, with the times you actually tapped. The page says Saved on this phone until then, and Saved to Refurbly once it has gone.

Steps:

  1. Open this page once while you have signal, then use Add to Home Screen. It saves your jobs on the phone so it opens at sites with none.
  2. Choose where you are working under Where are you working today?, and the job if it is listed.
  3. Press Take photo to photograph the area as you find it. You can pick one from your photos instead.
  4. Press Check in. If your phone is not at the site you are asked why; pick a reason or type one, then press Check in anyway.
  5. At lunch press Pause for lunch — the clock stops — and Back to work when you are done.
  6. When you finish, press Check out, take an After photo and press Check out again.
  7. If you forgot to check out, tick I finished earlier than now and enter the time you actually left.
  8. Back in signal, open this page again. If it says days are waiting to upload, press Upload now. A day the server cannot accept stays on your phone with the reason; press Try again once it has been sorted out.
  9. If you missed a day altogether — forgot your phone, or it died — press Missed a day? Add it by hand at the bottom. Choose the day, enter when you started and finished and your unpaid break, and say what happened; that note is required. It is marked as added by hand with the time you added it, and goes for approval. It saves on your phone and uploads later if you have no signal.
  10. A day that says Not accepted because it is too old, or your phone's clock was wrong, shows Add it by hand instead. It brings over what is still right and replaces the refused day once the new one is saved.

Your phone must stay signed in. A day you clocked cannot be uploaded after two weeks; a day added by hand can go back 60 days. For anything older, ask the person who set up your job to add it.
